The Porch That Knew Everyone's Name
Nearly four decades on a front porch in Old Towne Orange.

Our porch is wide enough for four chairs and a little table, and that turned out to matter more than anything inside the house.
Old Towne is a walking neighborhood. In the evenings people pass by with strollers and dogs, and if you sit outside long enough you'll meet everyone. We did.
I've watched three generations of kids learn to ride bikes on this sidewalk.

The Porch
My husband and I spent our first night here on the porch because the movers were late with the bed. We kept the habit for thirty-nine years.
On Halloween, the porch becomes a stage. Our street goes all out, and we usually go through four bags of candy by eight o'clock.
